The Murder On The Orient Express Trailer Shows Off Its All Star Cast
With the trend of nostalgia currently ruling the world of TV and film, it seems like every beloved property is being brought back for a reboot or revival. And the latest of these is the upcoming remake of the classic murder mystery film Murder on the Orient Express. The third adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel features an absolutely stunning ensemble cast, the film has been slowly accruing fan excitement and anticipation. And now all of the wait will pay off, as the first trailer for the new Murder on the Orient Express is upon us. It may be brief, but its sure to feature every starring member of the cast. Check it out.
This trailer is short and sweet, but pretty exciting nevertheless. Film stars new and old have assembled for this remake, and the resulting trailer is thoroughly intriguing. So I can only imagine how the finished film will look. Let's break down exactly what we're being shown in this brief trailer.
From the start, the feeling of foreboding and suspense in the film is palpable. We see the ominous titular train pull into a station, and various passengers get settled in the dining cart. But things quickly go awry when someone is murdered, and Kenneth Branagh's Hercule Poirot is tasked with finding out whodunit. While this might be a difficult task, Poirot has a mustache that could presumably conquer the world. So there's that.
The costume design for Murder on the Orient Express looks absolutely fantastic. Set in 1935, we see as the various passengers on the Orient Express attempt to enjoy their long train ride. Each character's class and status is immediately clear by how their costumes juxtapose each other. It's delightful to see the suits and dresses of the 30's, instantly transporting the audience back in time and suspending their disbelief.
Perhaps the most powerful moment of the entire trailer is a long shot featuring the majority of the film's cast. As each character is introduced, they're given a title card (which feels somewhat Suicide Squad-ish nowadays). The titles function similar to a game of Clue. There's the professor, the widow, the butler, etc. Their status will likely affect how they're interrogated, as well as which secrets the motley crew is respectively hiding.
The cast of Murder on the Orient Express is absolutely fantastic. Joining Kenneth Branagh are living legends like Dame Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Willem Defoe, as well as acclaimed performers like Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. They're joined by more contemporary stars such as Star Wars' Daisy Ridley, Beauty and the Beast's Josh Gad, and Hamilton star and Tony Award Winner Leslie Odom Jr. During the project's filming, Josh Gad would repeatedly harass Daisy Ridley about Star Wars spoilers, with his videos quickly going viral. In fact, Judi Dench even joined in on the fun at one point.
Murder on the Orient Express will pull into the station on November 10, 2017. Be sure to check our our full 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
