Outlander’s Sam Heughan May Have Landed His First Big Movie Role
It was only just a few short years ago that Outlander's Sam Heughan was a fairly new face on American TV. Despite taking roles for over a decade before landing the Outlander gig, it wasn't until the Starz series blew up that Sam Heughan became a household heartthrob...err, name. Now, he may have landed his first big movie gig. The Outlander star is in talks to star in his first big Hollywood film with The Spy Who Dumped Me.
The Spy Who Dumped Me is described as a comedy project that will follow Mila Kunis and SNL's Kate McKinnon as two best friends who end up in some shenanigans. Basically, one of them will be dating Sam Heughan's character, and will find out he's a spy. Somehow, they'll get entangled in his spy work, leading to all kinds of fun comedic moments. Word is still out on the street if this project will be requiring a shirtless moment from the actor.
The Spy Who Dumped Me wouldn't be Sam Heughan's first movie ever. If you've ever seen the Hallmark classic A Princess for Christmas, which often airs as part of the Hallmark Channel's lengthy pre-holiday lineup, you know he can handle himself as the male lead in a female-focused movie. He's also taken gigs in indie flicks like Emulsion and When the Starlight Ends. Regardless, The Spy Who Dumped Me would be a much bigger deal, because not only does it have bigger star power, it's coming from Imagine Entertainment. Chasing Life's Susanna Fogel wrote the project with David Iserson, per Deadline, and prolific producer Brian Grazer is producing.
Outlander feels like it is filming nearly constantly, so it's nice that it looks like Sam Heughan will be able to work another project in between seasons of the fan-favorite Starz drama, which has a slew of Diana Gabaldon's books to get through still before the show presumably ends, provided it remains popular on the network. We know the show was filming through the end of May, and in South Africa, but we still have a few months before Season 3 is set to hit the schedule. The subscription cable network has already announced we will be getting new episodes of the drama in September of 2017, so you'll have to hang tight for a few more months. While you wait in anticipation, you can check out what we know about the upcoming episodes. And, of course, we'll keep you updated as The Spy Who Dumped Me moves forward.
Lionsgate has said the movie is expected to premiere on July 6, 2018. To find out what is headed to theaters sooner, take a look at our full upcoming movies schedule.
