The Conjuring 2 Spinoff Will Be About One Major Character
Horror movie franchises are hit or miss, but New Line Cinema has found a winner with its Conjuring franchise. In addition to the two main movies released in 2013 and 2016, respectively, the series has also spawned a number of spinoffs. Now it's been announced that another movie will branch off from The Conjuring 2, as the creepy Crooked Man will lead his own terrifying tale soon.
New Line Cinema is currently developing a Crooked Man spinoff, making it the sixth movie in The Conjuring universe. According to THR, Mike Van Waes, who is also working on a horror movie set in the Wizard of Oz world, will write the script based off a story from James Wan, mastermind of The Conjuring franchise and current Aquaman director. Wan and Peter Safran are attached as producers, but no director has been chosen yet.
The Crooked Man hails from the 19th century English nursery rhyme "There Was A Crooked Man," and the figure himself has appeared in projects like the The Wolf Among Us video game. The Crooked Man was also the subject of a 2016 Syfy movie, though this Conjuring spinoff would most certainly be his biggest media appearance yet. In The Conjuring 2, he appeared as a manifestation of the demon Valak, who based that form off the Crooked Man toy owned by Billy, the youngest member of the Hodgson family.

While the fate of the main Conjuring series remains to be seen (a third film with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively, has been discussed), the franchise is still coasting along with its spinoffs. 2014 saw the release of the prequel Annabelle, starring the doll from the first Conjuring movie, and its sequel, Annabelle: Creation, will be released this August. The next spinoff after that will be The Nun, which, like The Crooked Man, is based off one of the dreadful monstrosities seen in The Conjuring 2. All together, the Conjuring franchise has earned approximately $897 million worldwide, making it one of the most profitable horror franchises ever.
