Spider-Man is in a strange place in the comic book movie world because Marvel and Sony are each sharing custody of the wall-crawler. Now it seems mom and dad aren't quite sure which way to raise him. While Spider-Man himself is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, previous reports had indicated that planned Sony superhero movies like Venom and Silver & Black would not be. However, Sony's Amy Pascal now says that, at the very least, the MCU Spider-Man will exist in the world of these movies, which would technically connect them to the MCU as a whole. Those movies will all take place in the world that we are now creating for, you know, Peter Parker. They'll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other as well.
When Amy Pascal is specifically asked if Tom Holland might appear in the Sony films, she says "there's always a chance." There's really no other way to read that. While we probably shouldn't expect to see Scarlett Johansson show up in Silver & Black at any point, the fact that it is clearly Tom Holland's Spider-Man who is the Spider-Man in the spinoffs would clearly connect these other films to the MCU.
The comments to Germany's Filmstarts would seem to contradict previous statements in this regard. Previous indications had been that Sony's plans to do more movies using Spider-Man related characters were going to be their own thing. Even with Amy Pascal's comments, there's no indication that Marvel Studios will be involved in these films in any way, as such, it's hard to believe that Marvel will consider these films part of their universe. Having said that, everything we know about the deal between Marvel and Sony that brought Spider-Man into the MCU indicates that Spider-Man: Homecoming is, for all intents and purposes, a Sony movie. It's not clear how much Marvel can do if Sony wants to pay Tom Holland to show up and flirt with Black Cat.
It should be said that the entire time Amy Pascal is making these comments, Marvel's Kevin Feige is looking at her in a way that makes one wonder what he's thinking. The one thing that's clear is that the expression is not a look of obvious agreement. He's doing a lot of blinking and he's looking at the interviewer, which we can't see, clearly looking for a reaction. At this point, it appears there may be some confusion between the two studios on exactly what is going on here. We'll have to wait and see for ourselves.
