For seven seasons, Vanessa Bayer kept us laughing on Saturday Night Live, whether she was wowing us with her Rachel impression or just trying to make some Tostino's for her hungry guys. The 42nd season of SNL was Bayer's last, however, and while she will no doubt be missed, she's already looking at a bright future. Bayer has lined up her first post-SNL gig and will be appearing in a new comedy movie looking to start shooting this August called Ibiza - which will be heading to Netflix courtesy of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company.
According to Deadline, the Saturday Night Live alum has been cast alongside Gillian Jacobs (Love, Community) and Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens) in the new comedy. Ibiza will follow Jacobs' character and her two best friends (Bayer and Robinson) on a work trip to Barcelona and Ibiza that takes a quick turn as they go on a hunt for a popular DJ. There are currently no other plot or casting details available, but so far it's looking like a mighty strong assembly of funny women.
Vanessa Bayer is obviously no stranger to comedy, having been a cast member on SNL and becoming well known for her various characters and impressions (we'll never forget you, Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy). That being said, Bayer has also been filling out her film resume in recent years, appearing in movies like director Judd Apatow's Trainwreck and last year's ensemble comedy Office Christmas Party. Ibiza sounds like it will be her biggest role to date.
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions will produce Ibiza alongside Good Universe's Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, and Erin Westerman. The two production companies previously collaborated on The House, starring Ferrell and Amy Poehler, which is coming out later this month. Newcomer Alex Richanbach is set to direct Ibiza after a long career of directing shorts, and will be using a script written by screenwriter Lauryn Kahn. The movie will be a Funny or Die reunion of sorts, as both writer Richanbach and Kahn cut their teeth working on videos for the Ferrell and McKay-owned comedy website. Kahn was formally Adam McKay's assistant before moving up to writing scripts of her own, selling one to Sony called He's Fuckin' Perfect (later renamed to the more marketing-friendly The Social Life).
While it has no current release date, Ibiza is already set up for distribution with Netflix - and will probably come out some time in 2018.
