While Peter Parker may be the current Spider-Man, it's only a matter of time before his successor, Miles Morales, makes his live-action debut. In the comics, the fan favorite character takes on the mantle of Spider-Man following the death of Peter Parker and forges his own path as the classic hero. Several fans have wanted to see the Morales character in a movie since his debut in 2011 and that includes RJ Cyler. Cyler played the Blue Power Ranger in this year's Power Rangers movie and he'd love the opportunity to play a superhero of a different kind.
Power Rangers debuted this year to middling reviews but RJ Cyler's performance as Billy the Blue Ranger was a subject of universal praise. He imbued his character with plenty of heart, strength, and relatability -- all while no doubt being an inspiration to some (Billy is the first Autistic superhero on film). Talking to Screen Rant, Cyler is happy to jump into another superhero franchise and he knows exactly the one he wants. Cyler has got his eyes set on Miles Morales, which he calls his "perfect role."
Cyler is clearly a star on the rise, and hopefully, one day he does get his shot at Spider-Man but who knows exactly when that will be. Tom Holland's Peter Parker is the Spider-Man of the MCU and it looks to stay that way for the long haul. He may not be arriving soon, but Miles is definitely a character Marvel Studios will be considering for future films one day.
It might not be live-action, but Miles Morales will make his film debut as the main character in the untitled animated Spider-Man movie over at Sony. Shameik Moore (Dope) has been cast to voice the title character, in addition to Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry as Miles' uncle and father respectively.
There may not currently be an opportunity for RJ Cyler to take a swing through New York City, but he's already ready proven capable of tackling a superhero role and coming out on top. As of now, it's unclear if Cyler will get his chance to reprise Billy, as a Power Rangers sequel has yet to be announced. However, with toy sales apparently up due to the movie, there's a solid chance that announcement could be coming soon.
