It's no secret that several Phase 3 movies of the MCU have seriously impressive casts. Ant-Man and the Wasp has been building out its own cast a bit slower, with only a few new key actors announced so far. That's likely to change over the next two weeks with D23 this weekend and San Diego Comic-Con the following week. Ahead of those conventions, a new rumor claims that a classic Ant-Man comic book character will be making his debut in the superhero sequel. Bill Foster, also known as the superhero Goliath, may be coming to the MCU.
This rumor comes from The Hashtag Show, which claims that Marvel Studios has someone interested in filling out the role of a "highly intelligent African American male between 55-65." While the part and the actor looking to play it are unknown, The Hashtag Show speculates that the role is likely for that of Bill Foster, a Marvel comics character known for assisting Hank Pym. This is still only a rumor for now, but if there is some truth to it, then Bill Foster does make the most sense to be the role in question.
In the comics, Bill Foster was a brilliant biochemist who worked with Hank Pym. Foster eventually striking out on his own path as a superhero and using Pym Particles to grow in size. Foster went by a few different superhero names (Black Goliath, Giant-Man), but he is perhaps best known as Goliath. He was an ally to several different superheroes over the years, but his most famous storyline might be Civil War, wherein he sided with Captain America and was killed by a robotic clone of Thor. He's not exactly the biggest character out there, but that might what makes his inclusion in Ant-Man and the Wasp all the more plausible.
His supposed role in Ant-Man and the Wasp was not given any significant details, but judging by the information, Bill Foster could be a colleague of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). It's possible that he is called in to help with Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) new size changing abilities that were first seen in Captain America: Civil War.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will be directed by Peyton Reed and has already started production in Atlanta. Not much is known about the plot at this point, but something tells me some D23 reveals are right around the corner. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily and Michael Douglas are reprising their roles. Randall Park has reportedly joined the cast as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo, and Hannah John-Kamen is set to play a mysterious character.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently scheduled for release on July 6, 2018. For more updates on the sequel, make sure to keep checkin in at CinemaBlend.
