Two Ways Avengers: Infinity War Is Changing Spider-Man After Homecoming

Now that we're two movies in, we have a pretty good grasp on who Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Captain America: Civil War, of course, introduced the new version of the webslinger to audiences , but Spider-Man: Homecoming did its part to really flesh out the character and his world. Given how much we've enjoy his presence, it thankfully won't be too long until he's back on the big screen again, given a key role to play in the upcoming The Avengers: Infinity War. But as we learned from footage that debuted today at Disney's D23 Expo, he will be slightly different when we catch up with him next year. For starters, we're finally getting a legitimate taste of the hero's famed Spider Sense, but audiences should also get ready to see him in a brand new costume.
The first ever footage from The Avengers: Infinity War was shown this afternoon during the big D23 presentation highlighting Disney's slate of upcoming live-action titles -- and while a lot of major characters received a moment in the spotlight, the depiction of Spider-Man in multiple scenes definitely caught our attention. It seems as though the 2018 blockbuster is going to be making some interesting alterations to the wall-crawler following the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and they're definitely going to have fans talking.
To start, one particular part in the Avengers: Infinity War footage provided the best depiction yet of Spider Sense in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the past year or so, there has been some hefty debate about the full extent of Spider-Man's powers, partially motivated by him A) not noticing Ant-Man on Captain America's shield in Civil War, and B) not sensing the attack of Vulture's wingsuit that traps him in a pile of rubble in Homecoming. In Infinity War, however, that debate is fully put to rest. Specifically, in a sequence that features Thanos crashing down to Earth in a giant spaceship, there is a cutaway to Peter Parker riding on a school bus, and all of the hairs on his arm stand on end, as he clearly feels impending danger in the air. While it's possible that he's had Spider Sense all along and just doesn't hasn't known how to control it, this scene is the first time that we have really been able to fully see it in action so far in the MCU.
The other big change that Spidey fans can anticipate is a reversal of the events that play out at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming -- where Peter is shown rejecting Tony Stark's offer to join the Avengers and wear a brand new armored suit. It seems that Peter winds up having a change of heart when Thanos arrives, because the Spider-Man footage that was featured in the reel had him wearing the "Iron Spider" costume instead of sporting the normal red and blue spandex. It's probably a fair bet that we will see at least some of the classic look during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and perhaps a scene where he decides to switch, but apparently Peter will be reaching for the most advanced tech he can get his hands on when it comes time to do battle with the Mad Titan.
