First Look At Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter In Star Wars: The Last Jedi
If you thought Kylo Ren would be taking a break following the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you're sorely mistaken. Having just killed his father and failing to obtain his grandfather's lightsaber, the man once known as Ben Solo will be busier than ever in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and not just on the ground. Back in January, it was reported that Kylo Ren will be piloting a special TIE Fighter, just like Darth Vader did in A New Hope. Half a year later, we have our first look at Kylo's ship, which is called the TIE Silencer.
As you can see, the TIE Silencer looks like a narrow and sleeker version of the TIE Interceptor. The Silencer's technical name is the Sienar Jaemus TIE/VN Space Superiority Fighter, and it's armed with laser cannons and a missile launcher. The Star Wars Show only showed off concept art of Kylo Ren's ship, so we'll have to wait until Lucasfilm either drops some footage of it in a Last Jedi preview or until the movie itself comes out to see the ship in action. That said, given its technical capabilities and Kylo Ren's skill with The Force, we don't doubt he'll be able to cause a lot of destruction inside that cockpit.
Kylo Ren didn't show off any of his piloting skills in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but since he has both Skywalker and Solo blood, it was to be expected that he'd be a talented flier. As has been the case with most Star Wars movies, The Last Jedi will feature a giant space battle, so if Kylo Ren is leading his own TIE Fighter squadron during the conflict, we can count on a lot of Resistance pilots being gunned down by him. However, it's also been rumored that in The Last Jedi and Episode IX, Kylo Ren will be visiting some familiar Star Wars planets as part of his personal journey. If the TIE Silencer is hyperdrive capable, perhaps we'll also see him separating from The First Order and flying off to these locations, and anyone who crosses him along the way will be quickly taken out with the Silencer's impressive weaponry.
As is the norm with Star Wars movies, Lucasfilm is staying quiet about specific plot details concerning The Last Jedi, including what's in store for Kylo Ren besides his helmet being destroyed, as teased in the first trailer. Unofficially, it's been reported that in addition to flying in the TIE Silencer, Kylo will be wearing a black cape to emulate his Sith Lord grandpa. Adam Driver has also indicated that Kylo will be dealing with an internal scar in addition to the external one now on his face, suggesting that perhaps he feels regretful about killing Han Solo.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released in theaters on December 15.
