Check Out The First Look At Domino In Deadpool 2
Nobody expected the first Deadpool to turn into the worldwide phenomenon that it eventually became, but that success has blown the lid off of what's possible in the X-Men universe. With Deadpool 2 officially set for a 2018 release, Wade Wilson's world is about to open up in a major way. On that note, Ryan Reynolds has officially released the first look at Atlanta actress Zazie Beetz as Deadpool newcomer Domino, and she looks even more badass than we could've ever anticipated. Check it out below.
It seems that the original Deadpool's marketing campaign has received an upgrade, as Wade Wilson has officially been turned over to make way for Domino in front of that now iconic fireplace. That image very clearly harkens back to the early days of the first film's marketing, and it gives us a fantastic sense of where everyone involved wants to take this story. This is still the same Deadpool that we have come to know and love over the course of the last year; the universe is just getting bigger.
One of the most interesting things to note about this picture is the way in which the folks behind Deadpool 2 have played with Domino's color scheme. The character typically has pale white skin and a black dot around her eye in most comics. Rather than cover Zazie Beetz in makeup, it looks like the production has opted to keep her darker skin tone and make the dot around her eye white. It is an incredibly minor change to the character's overall aesthetic, but it also feels entirely grounded within the world established by the first Deadpool. Beyond that, she just looks like a kickass character.
Domino is not the most well-known Marvel character to mainstream audiences, but her backstory feels like a solid fit for a Deadpool story. Domino, whose real name is Neena Thurman, is a member of the X-Force team who can quite literally manipulate odds -- allowing her to improve her own luck while reducing the luck of her enemies in combat. She is a perfect counterpoint to Wade Wilson's perpetual bad luck and a bonafide Marvel badass in her own right.
With that said, Domino is only the first piece of the puzzle that we are looking forward to seeing. In addition to Zazie Beetz's character, Deadpool 2 has also enlisted the acting chops of Josh Brolin to take on the role of fan-favorite X-Man Cable. Cable is fundamental to telling the next chapter of Wade Wilson's story, but one thing is certain: he has a lot to live up to after this phenomenal first glimpse at Domino.
