The Cool Way Deadpool 2 Will Approach Domino’s Unique Superpowers
There are many things to be excited about when it comes to the untitled Deadpool 2, but high on that list is Zazie Beetz's take on the mutant Domino. The character has one of the weirdest powers in the Marvel Universe -- the ability to manipulate probability -- and it should lend to some weirdly complicated, fun sequences the highly-anticipated sequel. In fact, we know that it will, because director David Leitch recently told me all about the movie's interpretation of Domino's gift. Said the filmmaker,
David Leitch has been on the press tour for his new action movie Atomic Blonde, and it was at the end of our interview earlier this month at San Diego Comic-Con that I took the opportunity to ask about Domino in Deadpool 2. Fascinated about the potential in showcasing the character's powers, I asked Leitch about the interpretation, and it sounds like the production team is setting up some entertaining stuff.
On the surface, Domino's mutant ability appears to be "Good Luck," but it's actually much more complicated than that. Raised as a genetic experiment, she has a subconscious telepathic skill that allows her to change her environment in her favor. For example, if you try and shoot a gun at her, mechanisms within the gun will shift and cause it to jam. There's a wonderful potential for Rube Goldberg-esque sequences that play out within an instant, and hopefully that's what David Leitch is referring to when he describes the "really cool visual ideas."
Fans excited for Deadpool 2 got their first look at Zazie Beetz as Domino yesterday, as star Ryan Reynolds shared the image up top on his personal Twitter page. I also had the opportunity to ask David Leitch about casting the Atlanta star as the fan-favorite character, and he noted that a lot of it came down to her chemistry with the star. Said Leitch,
