Paul Rudd And Benedict Cumberbatch Surprised A Marvel Fan On His Birthday
Marvel actors have been known to spread goodwill and cheer on their off days (and sometimes even during filming!), and recently Ant-Man and the Wasp star Paul Rudd teamed up with Doctor Strange lead Benedict Cumberbatch to greet a young man for his birthday. Intriguingly, the young guy's birthday falls on the same day that Ant-Man and the Wasp has finally started shooting. You can check out the nice video, below.
We've known for a while that Ant-Man and the Wasp would be filming during the summer months, and from what it looks like, the movie got off the ground on one special fan's ninth birthday. From what we can tell, his YouTube savvy sibling set up the Facetime call, and the rest is history. If you stick around after the video message from Paul Rudd and Benedict Cumberbatch, you can hear the kid's family address a lot of variations of the word "amazing." Enjoy that, too.
Marvel does a lot of these sorts of things in order to acknowledge the many kids who are fans of the many movies in the MCU. Just about a month ago, we saw Tom Holland visit sick kids at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles; at another point, the actor who plays Spider-Man acknowledged fans in the only way he could: by throwing autographs out of his hotel window. With Spider-Man: Homecoming only having recently come out, there have been a lot of opportunities for Tom Holland to do these sorts of things, just like Captain America and Iron Man before him. With Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther coming up, presumably there will only be more moments like these coming down the pipeline, as well..
I don't know if its savvy publicists or Marvel itself setting up some of these moments, but either way, they are pretty feel-good all around, and aren't a bad way to gain additional attention for actors who are already very much in the public eye thanks to the popularity of MCU movies.
As for Ant-Man and Doctor Strange hanging out, the two have spent time together on the set of Avengers: Infinity War, which has been in production through the summer ahead of its release next year. There's also that thing where the self-contained Ant-Man actually played a part in introducing concepts found in Doctor Strange, as well, so the two characters have perceived connections outside of the friendship between the two actors. We'll be able to see them and a lot of other characters in action when Avengers: Infinity War drops on May 4, 2018. (When we say a lot we mean a lot.) Ant-Man and the Wasp will follow on July 6, 2018. Here's what we know about the upcoming movie.
