How Ant-Man And The Wasp May Tie Into Captain America: Civil War
There's no question that Ant-Man is one of the most unique Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The newest addition to the MCU canon when Captain America: Civil War debuted last year, Scott Lang hasn't received nearly as much focus as guys like Steve Rogers or Tony Stark. However, that could change in Ant-Man and the Wasp, as a new casting call for the highly anticipated sequel hints that the film may show some of Scott's time on The Raft prison during the events of Civil War.
This report comes to us courtesy of Omega Underground, and it suggests that Ant-Man and the Wasp (which recently began production) is looking for prisoner and guard extras to help create a prison sequences. Although this report doesn't specify the chronology or the setting of the scene in question, it has led many to wonder if this will focus on Scott Lang in the place that we last saw him -- sitting in a cell aboard Tony Stark's custom-made Raft prison for violating the Sokovia Accords. If that's the case, then it could potentially mean that we will see the immediate aftermath Civil War, as well as Scott's journey back to San Francisco.
It would make quite a bit of sense for Ant-Man and the Wasp to reflect on the events of Captain America: Civil War to inform its story -- even if it's only a few scenes. Judging by the story of Spider-Man: Homecoming and the trailers for Black Panther, upcoming Earth-based MCU adventures may feel heavily influenced by the insane status quo shifts that occurred during the last Avengers team-up -- and subsequent split. In that regard, it only makes sense for Ant-Man and the Wasp to explore Scott's most recent incarceration.
Of course, the other distinct possibility is the idea that Ant-Man and the Wasp will simply feature another sequence that takes place in a traditional prison. Scott Lang is no stranger to a life behind bars, so it's entirely plausible that the film could offer us a flashback to his time in jail before Hank Pym showed up to recruit him. Beyond that, if Ant-Man and the Wasp maintains the heist format established in the first Ant-Man movie, then we could potentially see Scott and Hope Van Dyne end up behind bars as a result of their actions.
What do you think? Is Ant-Man and the Wasp going to offer us new insight into Scott Lang's time on The Raft during the events of Captain America: Civil War? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Ant-Man will make his next appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Earth's mightiest heroes unite to face off against Thanos in The Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018. From there, the smallest Avenger will team up with Hope Van Dyne when Ant-Man and the Wasp hits the silver screen later in the summer on July 6, 2018.
