Wait, Will Nick Fury Appear In Avengers 4 After All?
While a lot of familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe faces are participating in Avengers: Infinity War next year and Avengers 4 in 2019, there's one name that's been suspiciously absent from the large lineup. Last month, Samuel L. Jackson claimed that he hasn't gotten the call to reprise Nick Fury in either of the upcoming Avengers movies. Since Infinity War finished nearly all of its filming in July, the chances of Fury appearing in that movie are slim, but if a search for a specific kind of photo double is to be believed. it's possible that we may see the one-eyed spy grace Avengers 4 after all.
According to a casting call posted by AJC, Avengers 4 is looking for an African-American male who is in the 30s to 50s age range, is 6'2" to 6'4" in height and has a chest size between 38 to 40. This individual also must be bald and have a goatee or facial hair that they can cut into a goatee that matches the main actor. While the age range doesn't match up with Jackson, who is 68, the rest of this sounds like Nick Fury to a T. And even then regarding the age, we could let it slide considering that Fury is more in shape than a lot of men his age. One can't be one of the best spies in the world without maintaining a proper fitness regiment.
The last time we saw Nick Fury in the MCU was at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was helping establish the New Avengers facility in New York following the evacuation of Sokovia. Since then, his whereabouts haven't been addressed, so he could be doing anything from continuing his spy work to relaxing in Tahiti. Given how important Fury has been to the MCU (especially in Phase One when he served as one of the primary connective threads for those movies), it'd be strange for him not to appear in Avengers 4, the movie that's concluding Phase Three and launching a new era for the franchise. And since Avengers 4's main shoot is happening until the end of the year, there's still plenty of time for Marvel to bring Samuel L. Jackson in to film a few scenes.
Fortunately for Nick Fury fans, the character has at least one more appearance already scheduled. He's confirmed to appear in Captain Marvel, which will take place in the 1990s and show the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent back when he wasn't dealing with impaired vision. While it will be interesting to see Fury help Carol Danvers battle the Skrulls and possibly the circumstances of how he lost his eye, it would still be nice if we could reunite his present day self one more time in case there are no plans for Samuel L. Jackson to return in Phase Four.
Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
