The DCEU is heavily investing in clowns. DC Films and Warner Bros. are developing a Joker origin movie, a Joker/Harley Quinn movie, Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens, and at least the latter three of those are supposed to feature none other than Harley Quinn. The future is colorful, and it's clear that viewers should expect to see a lot of the character over the next few years. Although which of these films is first up for production is unclear, Margot Robbie said in a recent interview that she has an idea of when she will begin filming again. Here's what she had to say.
Speaking about her upcoming schedule, Margot Robbie revealed that she is expecting to suit up once again as Harley Quinn sometime next year. This means that fans can likely expect to see Harley Quinn on the big screen again somewhere around 2019. But there are a lot of Harley Quinn projects in the works so what exactly is Robbie going to be filming? Well, she has no idea. She told The Wrap that the outler's guess was as good as hers, so she doesn't know if it'll be Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, or if the Joker will be around.
As mentioned before, there are quite a few different possibilities for what Margot Robbie will be doing next year. The one that might make the most sense is Suicide Squad 2, which has already found a new director and writer in Gavin O'Connor. Reports claim that Warner Bros. wants to fast-track the sequel, which assumedly means that beginning filming by next year would be a necessity. There's also a chance that it will be the Joker/Harley Quinn movie, which is described as being a romance crime story starring Robbie and Jared Leto. It feels unlikely that Gotham City Sirens will begin filming so soon, considering that Warner Bros. is supposedly pushing that film back.
There's a heavy emphasis on Joker and Harley Quinn for upcoming DC films, and you can hardly blame the studio for pushing the duo so hard. The two characters continue to be very popular with fans, with Harley even recently getting her own animated movie alongside Batman. Margot Robbie's performance as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad has been one of the most celebrated aspects of the film, so it's no real surprise DC is leaning into that idea hard as it solidifies its film slate.
None of these Harley Quinn movies have a release date, but stick with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated with new information as soon as it's available. In the meantime, see what else movie theaters have to offer with our 2017 movie release guide.
