Will Nebula Confront Thanos In Avengers: Infinity War? Here’s What Karen Gillan Says
Karen Gillan's Nebula has slowly but surely become one of the most fascinating characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. During her appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 we have seen her go from a villain to a full-blown anti-hero on the warpath against Thanos. With The Avengers: Infinity War set to debut next summer, it now even looks like she will finally get a chance to confront The Mad Titan. Gillan addressed the possibility and said:
So while Karen Gillan can neither confirm nor deny anything about The Avengers: Infinity War, it seems like a safe bet to assume that Nebula and Thanos will share a moment during the massive, cosmic event. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Nebula opened up and explained her deep-seated hatred for Thanos -- laying out how he slowly but surely removed her organic bodyparts and replaced them with machinery every time she would lose a fight to Gamora. It's not just about protecting the galaxy or preventing an Infinity Stone from falling into the wrong hands with her; she hates this guy, which is likely going to make for an incredibly dramatic scene in the end.
That said, if Nebula wants to take a crack at Thanos, she is going to have to get in line. The Mad Titan has connections with several other Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, such as Thor Odinson and Drax, which means Nebula is far from the only person who will want to get a few good shots in during the upcoming film -- even if he doesn't deliver the death blow.
It's also worth noting that we may have to wait beyond the events of Infinity War to see this confrontation take place. Elsewhere in Karen Gillan's comments to Den of Geek, she noted that Nebula plays a significant role in the currently untitled fourth Avengers movie, which is expected to continue the Thanos arc and close out Phase 3. If Thanos is still alive and kicking when that film debuts on May 3, 2019, then it could present another opportunity to put Nebula up against her estranged father.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers will unite on the big screen for the first time when The Avengers: Infinity War premieres in theaters next year in May 4, 2018. Before then, make sure to check out Thor: Ragnarok later this year on November 3, 2017, and Black Panther on February 16, 2018.
