How Faithful The New Mutants Will Be To The Comics, According To Anya Taylor-Joy
As the X-Men franchise has played around with comic lore to a certain respect, a lot of folks are wondering just how close Josh Boone's The New Mutants will hew to the source material. Well, while we don't know any official plot details just yet, if Anya Taylor-Joy's words on the matter are any indication, it looks like the spin-off is going to lock in all of the right pieces of the Marvel books. Specifically, Taylor-Joy reassured fans of the Marvel comic saying,
Anya Taylor-Joy, who is playing llyana Rasputin a.k.a. Magik in the film, recently relayed these thoughts during an interview with Hey You Guys. So while some folks might attack a film like The New Mutants with a fresh take, or one minimally linked to its source material, it sounds like this brand new branch of the X-Men universe is going to be pretty accurate when it comes to the film adaptation of the Chris Clarmont and Bob McLeod-created series.
The greatest indication that Boone's adaptation, co-written by Knate Lee, is going to live up to that promise is the fact that it's using the villainous Demon Bear as its main protagonist. With its importance to the New Mutants line being rooted in the earliest days of the comic's run, that bear's presence imparts that Josh Boone cares about how to properly tell this story in order to give it the right foundation to potentially continue through into the future.
Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long to see what it is that Josh Boone is bringing to the table with The New Mutants. While the film is still a few months away, set to drop in theaters on April 13, 2018, we are getting a special early treat late tonight/early tomorrow in the form of the first ever trailer. We will have the footage for you as soon as it goes live online, so be sure to check back here on CinemaBlend at 12:01 AM PST to ring in Friday the 13th the right way!
