Why Thor's Team Is Called The Revengers, According To New Feature
With Cate Blanchett's Hela dead set on destroying Asgard, and making life rather unpleasant for Chris Hemsworth's Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, there's obviously going to be a big clash between the two heavy hitters in the latest entry in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. But as Thor's known since 2012, the odds of conquering your enemy are better if you have a reliable team on your side. Enter Thor's "Revengers," named as such for a very specific reason that was revealed in a brand new clip for the upcoming flick. Check it out.
So the name "Revengers" is obviously sourced from two different aspects. First, since Thor is clearly part of The Avengers on Earth, this is his attempt at a clever play on words. Not bad for the son of Odin, who looks to be at his wittiest in Thor: Ragnarok. But, of course, that's not the only reason that Thor has named his team "The Revengers". As he go on to explain in the clip above, there's a much simpler methodology also at work, as he amusingly states what seems like a very common purpose between himself and the members of the group:
The second party he's talking to in this moment is Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, the person who prompts Thor to explain the name of this new Thor: Ragnarok team. Which is only fair, because when recruiting anyone to a team, it's important to have a good name, as well as a strong roster. In terms of the players filling the bench of "The Revengers", that cast of characters also includes Thor's adopted brother, Loki, his loyal fellow Asgardian, Heimdall, and his avenging friend, Bruce Banner / The Hulk. Of course, that is presuming Mark Ruffalo's character changes his mind, as his official opinion at the end of this clip is that he's undecided on the matter.
And why wouldn't he be? Taika Waititi's MCU adventure finds The Hulk treated as a venerated gladiator, who gets to indulge in what he does best: tons and tons of smashing. That's enough to keep any green rage monster occupied for the rest of his or her life, especially since Ruffalo's scientist turned gigantic ass kicker purposely exiled himself after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Still, with Hela threatening to trigger the apocalyptic destruction Thor: Ragnarok promises in its title, Bruce Banner will hopefully win the argument against Hulk in order to help save the nine realms.
Can this ragtag team of heroes from Thor: Ragnarok defeat Hela and her fiendish plot? While it's pretty much assumed, the exact level of effort in The Revengers' campaign to thwart her is unknown at this moment. But what we do know is that this third Thor movie looks like it could be the most exciting in the bunch, especially when it focuses on a team such as the one at the center of this latest tease from Marvel Studios. It's not a long wait for the truth, as Thor: Ragnarok is going to bring the thunder to theaters next Friday. You can get your tickets for opening night right this very minute.
