Edgar Wright Knows He's Contributed A Lot To Halloween
Many of us movie fans look towards our favorite films when it comes to finding inspiration for Halloween costumes. One man who has helped us all out over the years is Edgar Wright, and it's something he's quite proud of. It seems that Wright has done it again, as one of the hot Halloween items this year is actually a rubber Austin Powers mask, thanks to its use popping up in Wright's film Baby Driver. The director says that he's quite proud of his contributions to Halloween, including the fact that many of the iconic looks he's created are fairly simple to pull off. According to Wright...
The Austin Powers mask comes into play in Baby Driver when confusion on the part of one of the bank robbers results in him buying three rubber masks of the Mike Myers character, rather than four masks of Michael Myers, the killer of the Halloween movies, which is what the actual instructions were. The guy in charge of masks apparently wasn't familiar with the famous slasher flick. According to The Hollywood Reporter, dressing as one of the bungling robbers is a popular Halloween costume this year.
The beauty of the Baby Driver Austin Powers Halloween costume is that it doesn't require an elaborate outfit to go with the mak. Normal clothes work great. For many of us who have trouble coming up with costume ideas, this is perfect, as it can be thrown together at the last minute. Edgar Wright mentions Shaun of the Dead as another movie that spawned a simple costume. There's a decent chance that you already have most of Shaun's clothes in your closet, all you need is a nametag. Anything you do need you can probably find pretty easily at your local thrift store.
It will be interesting to see what other costumes from recent movies could become popular this year. The lead character of Baby Driver also has some potential, as you can go a long way with just a pair of sunglasses and some earbuds, though who still actually has an iPod around?
The popularity of the Baby Driver robber outfit should lead to some fun conversations at this years' Halloween parties. If anybody hasn't actually seen the movie, the costume could lead them to check it out. It wouldn't be a bad thing since Baby Driver is one of the better movies we've seen this year.
