Brie Larson better get her mohawk ready, because Captain Marvel could begin filming pretty soon. It's not yet official that Larson is filming scenes for Avengers 4 (though it's heavily rumored she is), but she has yet to begin official work on her actual solo film. Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are hard at work developing the stand-alone movie, which will explain the origins of Carol Danvers and where she's been all these years. Thanks to a posting on a film industry site, we now know that Captain Marvel could begin filming in February 2018 in California.
When it finally arrives in theaters, Captain Marvel will be the first female-led superhero Marvel film, which has already drummed up a lot of anticipation from fans. The movie is set to land in theaters in 2019, and it just might finally begin filming next February. According to My Entertainment World, which lists the start dates and locations of upcoming film productions, Captain Marvel may begin filming the second month of next year. This lines up with early reports of an expected start date, including a comment from Kevin Feige, but keep in mind that this is not officially confirmed by anyone at Disney or Marvel just yet.
It's also important to know that Captain Marvel is listed as filming in Los Angeles, California. This differs from almost every other Marvel movie these days, which film in Atlanta, Georgia thanks to some sweet tax incentives (Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, to name a few). So, it's notable that Marvel will be returning to California, which was the home of several of their earlier films. This could be due to the Pinewood Atlanta Studio set getting too crowded or because of the new tax incentives California has put in place, which some other films have already taken advantage of.
When it does finally arrive in theaters, Captain Marvel will tell the origin story of pilot Carol Danvers and how she acquires powers that make her one of the most powerful beings on Earth. Set in the 1990s, the film will also star a younger Nick Fury, reprised by Samuel L. Jackson. The Skrulls are being tapped as the main antagonists and Ben Mendelsohn is reportedly in talks to star as the villainous Skrull leader.
We still have a long way to go, but you can see Captain Marvel when it flies into theaters on March 8, 2019.
