One Actor Who Wants To Play Nightwing For DC
The casting process on a massive-scale superhero movie can be unpredictable. No doubt, there are auditions (and lot of heavy lobbying on the part of agents and managers for certain clients). In the case of the reported Nightwing movie, announced director Chris McKay already has discussed on social media the need for potential leading men to get representation, because the cattle call of the audition process can be brutal. Especially when global celebrities like Nick Jonas also are lobbying for the part.
While doing press for his upcoming Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, actor/singer Nick Jonas told ComicBook.com, about possibly playing Nightwing,
Twitter has enjoyed riding the Casting Couch for Nightwing, the DC superhero who is the grown, mature version of one-time boy wonder Dick "Robin" Grayson. While it's true that Nick Jonas's name has been bandied around as a possible Nightwing, his is one of dozens of names that have been mentioned on Twitter (and yes, in the pages of CinemaBlend, as well).
The strongest social media push for Nightwing casting actually has swirled around two other actors -- Riz Ahmed:
As well as Dev Patel:
And yet, all of this, at the moment, is dream casting for a movie that's treading water in the deep end of Warner Bros. and DC's development pool. Chris McKay, who helmed the animated LEGO Batman movie, was tapped a while ago to direct a possible Nightwing movie. However, it belongs in a small, elite band of DC movies swirling around the Bat Family that include Joss Whedon's Batgirl movie, Matt Reeves' Batman movie, a Joker/Harley movie, a Suicide Squad 2, David Ayers' Gotham City Sirens, and more. There are a number of directions that the DCEU can go in the coming years, but right now, the only movies with confirmed release dates are Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 2.
Nightwing has to be older, mature, upbeat (he's not Batman), physically gifted and charismatic. Do you think Nick Jonas could pull these traits off? Should DC look elsewhere? Vote in our poll!
