Lady Gaga Is Almost Unrecognizable In First A Star Is Born Photo
Lady Gaga is one busy lady. While originally breaking onto the scene as a massively popular pop singer, she's since spread her wings and taken acting projects. After short roles in movies like Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, she booked a starring role in American Horror Story: Hotel, picking up a Golden Globe on the way. But her biggest role is still to come, as she's starring opposite Bradley Cooper in of A Star Is Born, which will also be Cooper's directorial debut. Details about the remake are few and far between, but we've just gotten our first look at Gaga as the character Ally. Check it out.
You can barely recognize her, but that's indeed Lady Gaga as the lead character. She seems to have really disappeared into Ally, which hopefully means good things for her performance in the final product.
A Star Is Born will revolve around Gaga's Ally, who is an aspiring singer. Bradley Cooper's character Jackson Maine will help pick her out of obscurity, and foster her talent to help her become the star she was born to be. In addition to Cooper and Gaga (who is being credited by her given name Stefani Germanotta), the cast is rounded out by some comedy legends, leading us to believe that there will be a fair amount of comedic beats in the finished product. Cast members include Andrew Dice Clay as Ally's father, Dave Chappelle, and The Big Lebowski's Sam Elliott.
Bradley Cooper's version of A Star Is Born is the third remake of the film, which was originally released in 1937. The lead role has been played by some seriously legendary ladies, including Judy Garland in the 1954 version, and Barbara Streisand in the classic 1976 remake. Gaga is similarly legendary for modern audiences, which makes her casting a pretty brilliant move by Cooper. And with this being her first leading role in a movie, it has the potential to change her career in a big way.
Lady Gaga has been carving her own path for the past few years, taking on projects that are quite different from her start with albums like The Fame Monster and Born This Way. Following the release of ArtPop, she channeled her more legitimate singing voice by recording an album and touring with legendary jazz singer Tony Bennett. After taking a break from music to focus on her leading role in American Horror Story, she recorded a folk album Joanne while simultaneously doing a guest spot on AHS: Roanoke as well as her acclaimed Netflix documentary Five Foot Two. She's also recently opened up about her struggles with chronic pain, which began with her hip injury and can be debilitating on a daily basis.
A Star Is Born will arrive in theaters on May 18, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
