It's been well over a year since it was first announced that Brie Larson would be playing Captain Marvel, with Marvel Studios first female superhero set to headline her own movie. All eyes have been on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 recently, and while Captain Marvel is almost definitely appearing in at least one of those, she's also got her own solo movie on the way for 2019. The filming start date has long been rumored to begin in early 2018, but new information points to exact date for filming to begin on January 22, 2018.
Fans are excited about Carol Danvers finally making her debut in the MCU, and while we've still got a while to go to see her onscreen, we now might have an idea of when Captain Marvel begins filming. Someone posted to Reddit what looks like a screengrab of a production document, claiming Captain Marvel begins filming on January 22, 2018, in Los Angeles. The document also lists the cast and producers, the latter of which includes Marvel Studios staples like Kevin Feige and Louis D'Espisito.
It's important to remember here that this is not officially confirmed, so have a few grains of salt by your side. But it does line up with earlier reports that filming will begin in early 2018, though the start date was originally rumored to be in February.
Should the post be accurate, it also lists the main cast members for Captain Marvel. In addition to the already confirmed Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, actors Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn were reported to be in talks to join Captain Marvel. Law was being sought for the role of Mar-Vell, the male lead of the film and a mentor figure to Carol Danvers. Mendelsohn was reportedly in talks to play the film's villain, but the character was not specifically named. If they both end up officially joining, then the cast is looking pretty strong.
Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a screenplay written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve, and Nicole Perlman. The film is set in the nineties and takes place before most of the other films in the MCU. It will be an origin story that explains how Carol Danvers acquired her powers and why she has been missing all this time. The mythology of the Kree-Skrull War will play a part in the story.
Captain Marvel is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019. To learn more about the movie, check out our comprehensive guide filled with everything you need to know about the superhero movie.
