This is something of an understatement, but Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a big film, both figuratively and literally. It's big not only in the sense that it's kickstarting the end of this iteration of the MCU and is the most anticipated movie of 2018, but it is quite physically big. It stars almost every major character from across all of Marvel Studios' franchises, not to mention some notable side characters. There are reportedly scenes that involve over 40 characters (!), which must be crazy to film. Infinity War star Anthony Mackie would have to agree and he recently told a story about what filming one such scene was like. According to Mackie...
The Avengers: Infinity War trailer has a lot of incredible moments to ogle at (we found 19 of them), but perhaps the one that represents the blockbuster best was one of the final shots of the Avengers running into battle with an army behind them. It symbolizes exactly the type of scope and epicness that fans can expect from the movie, and it might just be the scene Anthony Mackie is referring to. While attending Ace Comic-Con (via Heroic Hollywood), Mackie talked about what it was like to film a scene with "like 40 superheroes," and it sounds like it was pretty fun! Tom Holland and Dave Bautista were there and evidently, Holland is just barely the size of one of Bautista's legs.
Chris Evans was also there with Anthony Mackie at Ace Comic-Con and he knew exactly the day he was referring to. Evans doesn't get into any specifics but shared the sentiment that filming these massive scenes is a good time.
One of the reasons people love the MCU so much is that it allows for so many fun interactions between a variety of characters. That seems like it's going to be in full force in Avengers: Infinity War, which sounds like it was equally fun for the actors to film as it will be to watch. There's a legitimate threat that this is simply too many characters and the movie won't be able to sustain itself, we don't really have any reason to believe that just yet.
Avengers: Infinity War keeps sounding better all the time and you can expect to witness it for yourself on May 4, 2018. To learn more about Marvel's massive blockbuster, here's everything we know so far about Infinity War.
