Gwyneth Paltrow Might Have Confirmed A Fun Avengers Rumor
May's Avengers: Infinity War will see Thanos finally coming out of the shadows and proving he's the greatest threat to Earth and the universe at large that the Avengers have ever faced. Defeating will require every Avenger and supporting character to take up the fight. One such supporting character is Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, who cameoed in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but hasn't played a major part in the MCU since Iron Man 3. In that film, she proved herself to no longer be a damsel in distress, but a fierce warrior in her own right, using the Extremis powers and the Iron Man suit to kill Aldrich Killian. It has been suspected that Pepper Potts may once again suit up for the upcoming Avengers films, and it sounds like she will indeed be getting in on the action.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress confirmed that she is in the next Avengers movie. We have recently seen the actress clad in a motion capture suit, indicating the possibility that she will be using an Iron Man suit or perhaps getting one of her own and taking on her Rescue persona from the comics. When asked by Stephen Colbert if Pepper Potts would still have powers, the actress was a bit wishy washy in her response while also playing it coy, not wanting to give too much away. Colbert at first seemed to be asking her about the character's Extremis powers that she had in Iron Man 3 that were stabilized (but possibly still retained?) at the end of that film.
But Stephen Colbert also described the powers by thrusting his hand forward in such a way that Gwyneth Paltrow could be interpreting the question as whether or not Pepper Potts be using the repulsor beams in the upcoming Avengers movies. So her 'yes' response bodes well for the character getting to throw down in some fashion, but is not entirely clear. You can watch their whole exchange below:
The universe-altering events in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 demand that every hero and their allies join in the fight for survival, so there's a possibility that Pepper Potts could join this lineup. While the retention of her Extremis powers is an open question, there is nothing stopping her from donning a great new suit built just for her. Everyone is seemingly getting a new look and persona for the film, and it would be awesome to see her side by side with the Avengers and the Guardians as they stand as a united front against Thanos. There is also the fact that a fight and film of this magnitude has to have death and consequence. If Pepper enters the fray to help or perhaps save Tony and is killed in the process, that would be a huge blow and give the battle with Thanos the appropriate gravity and stakes.
We don't have long to wait to find out for sure what Pepper Potts will be doing in Avengers: Infinity War, because the cosmic clash kicks off on May 4. You can check out our guide for all of the upcoming 2018 movies, MCU-related and otherwise.
