The Clever Easter Egg Ant-Man And The Wasp's Director Hid In The Trailer
Earlier today, Marvel released the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will see Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne making her official superhero debut as The Wasp, which was teased in the Ant-Man mid-credits scene. Just like in the first movie, moviegoers can expect a lot of shrinking-related action in the sequel, and while Hope has wings built into her suit, Scott will have to stick with calling winged ants to quickly transport him elsewhere. And speaking of those insects, director Peyton Reed has confirmed that the guitar riff heard in the Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer comes from the 1982 song "Ants Invasion" by Adam and the Ants, as he confirmed below to a fan who questioned him about it.
A good teaser trailer needs to give a sampling of the movie's action and/or important beats without giving away too many plot-related details, and Ant-Man and the Wasp's preview certainly accomplished that. But kudos to Peyton Reed and the folks who cut together the trailer for also including a punny choice of music. It rocked and called back to Scott Lang's namesake animal. Reed wasn't required to pick any ant-related music to ensure that the Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer was catchy, but I doubt I'm the only one who appreciates him putting in the extra effort.
Set after Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man and the Wasp follows Scott Lang trying to balance his responsibilities both as Ant-Man and being a better father to his daughter, Cassie. However, his life will be thrown for a loop when Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym seek him out to help them on a new mission, which will see them venturing into the Quantum Realm. Along with most of the faces from the first Ant-Man movie returning, Ant-Man and the Wasp will introduce Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo.
You can watch/re-watch the first Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer below to hear that "Ants Invasion" guitar riff for yourself.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will be released on July 6, but you can see Paul Rudd reprise Scott Lang before that when Avengers: Infinity War drops on May 4. Both Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will also return for Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019. Feel free to also look through our Marvel movies guide to see what other MCU projects are in development.
