After first exploding to fame as Sheldon Cooper on the hit CBS comedy Big Bang Theory, Jim Parson has been spending his time between seasons to appear in smaller, prestige roles. While the end of Big Bang Theory may be within sight, Parsons is keeping his film career going and has snagged a role that might be his most high-profile movie yet. Parsons will be appearing in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, the Ted Bundy movie that stars Zac Efron as the famed and demented serial killer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Parsons has been cast in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. The film tells the story of Ted Bundy, a man who killed several dozens of women in horrific ways during the 70s and was eventually arrested after a routine traffic stop and sentenced to death. Parsons will portray Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor in the 1979 Miami trial that finally convicted Bundy.
The film stars Zac Efron as Ted Bundy, with Lily Collins, John Malkovich, Kaya Scodelario, Haley Joel Osment, and Jeffrey Donavon. Extremely Wicked is told from the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), Bundy's longtime girlfriend. It was during their relationship that Bundy committed multiple murders, and Kloepfer was crucial in helping authorities finally convict Bundy. Malkovich stars as the judge who presided over Bundy's trial and eventually sentenced him to death, while Scodelario plays Bundy's ex-wife, Carole Ann Boone, who had an ongoing relationship with Bundy that lasted through his trial. The movie is directed by Joe Berlinger based off a screenplay written by Michael Werwie.
In between filming seasons of Big Bang Theory for CBS, the four-time Emmy-winning Jim Parsons appears in indie films. His most recent big screen role was in the Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures. Even more recently, Parsons is coming off of A Kid Like Jake, a film he produced and starred in that premiered at Sundance Film Festival. The movie was acquired by IFC Films and aims for a summer release. The actor will also soon star in a Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band. Parsons has proven that he can be more than Sheldon Cooper and it will be interesting to see what he can in a movie like Extremely Wicked.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is currently filming in Covington, Kentucky, and does not yet have a release date.
