Zack Snyder's Justice League fundamentally changed the DCEU. Not only did it pay off the stories of established heroes like Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), but it also helped introduce newcomers like Cyborg (Ray Fisher), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Jason Momoa's Aquaman. Of all these heroes, Aquaman definitely stands out as one of the most interesting of the bunch, and we have officially gotten our hands on an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Justice League that reminds us just how badass he is when he leaps into action. Aquaman changed quite a bit in his transition from the page to the screen. As that video lays it out, the version of Arthur Curry seen in Justice League looks nothing like the blonde-haired character seen in the pages of DC Comics. That said, the transition arguably offered up a far more badass persona for Arthur, as Justice League's take on Aquaman provided the DCEU with a sort of rock star, "anti-establishment" hero to offset the clean-cut nature of heroes like Batman or Superman.
One other thing worth noting about this behind-the-scenes look at Justice League is just how much Jason Momoa seems to connect with Arthur Curry as a character and relate to his situation as an outsider. Momoa has discussed these feelings in interviews before, as he apparently grew up feeling stuck between worlds as a child born in Hawaii but raised in Iowa. In a similar sense, Arthur Curry is the King of Atlantis, but every time he steps on land (even with all of his power) he becomes a joke. He's quite literally a "fish out of water," and it gives him a badass mystique that many of the other characters don't have.
Now, with the character adequately introduced into the DCEU and getting ready for his solo adventure, Jason Momoa appears to have every intention of shutting down the jokes related to Aquaman's powers and origins. Justice League introduced the character to mainstream audiences, but James Wan's Aquaman looks like it will go even further by establishing a more familiar and recognizable version of the hero. Part of this stems from the fact that the movie will allow him to take center stage (which will let us get inside of his head even further), and part of it will also stem from the rumors suggesting that we may even don his classic orange and green suit when the film debuts.
Justice League is now available on Digital HD, while the Blu-ray edition of the film is currently available for pre-order and will hit shelves next month on March 13. That said, Arthur Curry's journey through the seven seas is far from over, as Jason Momoa will return to play the water-based hero when James Wan's Aquaman debuts in theaters later this year on December 21.
