Sony's Spider-Man Spinoff Silver And Black Has Just Taken A Major Step Forward
Sure, the first official trailer for Sony's highly-anticipated Venom movie may have just dropped, but there's still so much more to the world of the Spider-Man spinoff movies than just the upcoming solo adventure for Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy). In fact, another intriguing project in development in Sony's Spider-Man world is Silver & Black, the solo movie focusing on the team-up exploits of Marvel femme fatales Black Cat and Silver Sable. Now it looks like the project may have just gotten even more interesting, as the film has officially enlisted the screenwriting chops of Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet for the latest iteration of its script.
As far as resumes are concerned, there's quite a bit to get excited about with the involvement of Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet on the Silver & Black script. Lindsey Beer's recent credits include upcoming Lionsgate thriller Chaos Walking, and she has been involved in several franchises like Transformers, as well as the MonsterVerse. Meanwhile, Geneva Robertson-Dworet's recent credits include the upcoming, Alicia Vikander-fronted Tomb Raider reboot, as well as Captain Marvel over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Each of these women has a wealth of experience on geek-centric projects that involve strong female protagonists, which is arguably what something like Silver & Black needs to set itself apart and do its two female heroes justice.
Sony's Silver & Black film has slowly but surely managed to come together in recent months. Following its initial announcement (it is the second on Sony's slate of Spider-Man spinoffs) the film pushed forward with the reveal of its director in the form of Gina Prince-Bythewood and its February 2019 release date. Now its story is beginning to take shape with the hiring of Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet to work on the screenplay. All we need at this point are some casting announcements, and we will have a much better idea of what to expect from the project.
Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are not the first two screenwriters to take a crack at Silver & Black's story. As the THR report announcing their involvement mentioned: director Gina Prince-Bythewood, Chris Yost, and Lisa Joy all worked on previous drafts of the narrative at various points in the film's development. However, we still don't know if any material from those earlier drafts will be transferred over to this new iteration of the script, or if Beer and Robertson-Dworet's take on the material will completely start from scratch.
CinemaBlend will keep you posted with more updates related to Silver & Black as new details related to the Sony Spider-Man universe project become available to us. The film is set to debut in theaters next year on February 8, 2019. Before that, the Venom solo movie will premiere on the big screen later this year on October 5.
