The actors in the Fifty Shades franchise have been asked a lot of questions about the sex scenes in the movies over the years. We already know about "wee-bags" and the back-to-back way in which the sex scenes in the last two movies were filmed. However, recently Fifty Shades Freed actress Dakota Johnson talked about the hardest sex scene to film, and the moment definitely came during the making of the third movie. According to the actress,
The most difficult one by far--I think in all three movies--was a sex scene in the third film where I was handcuffed with my arms and legs to the gate. It's like a fence thing that comes down. And I was blindfolded. And it was kind of shocking, because I didn't realize that no matter how prepared or rehearsed I was, when your senses are taken away like that, you can't control the way your nervous system will react. So it was really tricky to navigate that scene. It was kind of difficult.
The scene in question that Dakota Johnson is talking about is a scene in the Red Room. Anastasia Steele is often blindfolded by Christian Grey in the Red Room, so that's not a particularly shocking thing. However, the gate that pops up a few times in Fifty Shades Freed, especially during the scene where Christian uses a vibrator on Ana and she feels violated, is a bit more shocking. Eventually Ana uses a safe word to get him to stop while she is shackled to the gate, so it's easy to see how the Red Room scenes and using the gate feature was a pretty intense experience during the making of the film.
The sex scenes in general don't seem to be the favorite scenes for either Dakota Johnson or Jamie Dornan, and Johnson's comments to Marie Claire also highlight that concept. In addition, both actors have spoken out about the uncomfortable nature of the sex scenes, and Dakota Johnson has previously said that both of them had coping mechanisms for getting through the scenes involving nudity and sex. She mentioned that she would drink whiskey while Jamie Dornan did push-ups so his abs would look good on the big screen. The actress has also spoken out about the scene that is her favorite in the series, and it's none other than a scene in Fifty Shades Freed, too. That scene is also one that features nudity, but of the casual variety, as Dakota Johnson has said she enjoyed shooting the scene which involves her getting dressed while fighting with Christian Grey.
