Kristen Stewart Wants To Star In The Charlie's Angels Reboot
After her time in the Twilight franchise made her a household name, Kristen Stewart has mostly eschewed blockbuster filmmaking in favor of starring in indie fare from exciting directors. But that doesn't mean that she wouldn't be up for returning to something more action oriented, and it seems like she even has something in mind. Last year we heard that the acclaimed actress was circling the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot from director Elizabeth Banks, and recently Kristen Stewart spoke about how much she'd like to be a part of it, saying:
Kristen Stewart certainly seems interested in being a part of Sony's Charlie's Angels reboot, but based on her comments to ET, it seems like nothing is finalized yet. Even at her young age, Kristen Stewart is a veteran actor who knows that business realities can sometimes throw a wrench into things no matter how far along they seem. But it certainly sounds like Kristen Stewart is still very much in the running to appear in the film. Should she join the film as one of Charlie's Angels, she may have some spectacular company around her. When Kristen Stewart's name was first associated with the project, it was side by side with current Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o. Director Elizabeth Banks has previously stated that she wouldn't be an Angel in the film, but Stewart and Nyong'o would give this reboot some serious acting talent in front of the camera, and we have a few ideas of who could join them.
If ever there was a time ripe for a Charlie's Angels reboot, it seems that now would be it. With women having their voices more represented in front of and behind the camera, the campy Charlie's Angels franchise could be rebooted in a way that is relevant and better reflects modern sensibilities. Kristen Stewart also spoke to how it would be perfect to release a movie like this now, featuring strong women helping each other. Audiences are also proving that female-fronted action movies are not only possible, but they are financially viable, too. Movies like Lucy, Atomic Blonde, The Hunger Games and Wonder Woman have all proven this in the time since the last Charlie's Angels.
The 2000 McG film starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz isn't exactly a beloved film, and I do wonder what the name value of the franchise is nowadays. There's a long road before this film hits theaters, and there are still a lot of elements to come together. But so far there are certainly reasons to be optimistic beyond the rumored cast including Kristen Stewart, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Auburn is set to write the script. The Charlie's Angels reboot is scheduled to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. For all the latest on this Nakia and Bella team up movie, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
