Vin Diesel Just Landed Another Comic Book Movie
It's no secret that comic book movies are everywhere. Between the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, and X-Men franchise, there is a new superhero-focused blockbuster arriving in theaters every few months. Sony is one studio trying to get in on the action, with Venom being the first of its movies based around characters from Spider-Man lore. They're also developing a Bloodshot movie, and have been actively pursuing Guardians of the Galaxy actor Vin Diesel to star as the title character. Now it looks like it's all paid off, because Diesel has signed the deal to lead Bloodshot's cast.
After months of negotiations, Vin Diesel is officially going to work with Sony on the Bloodshot movie. He'll be leading the cast as the title character, also known as Raymond Garrison. The badass hero leads its own comic series by Valiant Comics, and has a variety of abilities that make him a deadly force of nature. The new movie is reportedly going for an R rating, after seeing the wild success of Deadpool and Logan.
Bloodshot actually seems like a great character for Vin Diesel, due to his vast history in action roles. The upcoming movie will actually team him back up with producer Neal Moritz, who has worked on every single Fast and the Furious movie with Diesel. The actor's work as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 show that he understands how important these adaptations are to comic book fans, and will hopefully do his best to honor Bloodshot's history on the page.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Bloodshot is a soldier turned superhero who gained his powers from having nanites injected into his blood. Suffering from amnesia, he uses his myriad abilities to try and find who did this to him. It's like Deadpool meets Wolverine, and Diesel will no doubt have a ton of action sequences in the upcoming Sony adaptation.
Bloodshot was recently brought to live-action for the first time, albeit on the small screen. Valiant Comics produced a webseries adapting the Ninjak comics, which featured Bloodshot as a major character. He was played by Power Ranger icon Jason David Frank (aka Tommy the Green Ranger), who no doubt wanted the role for the movie. But they ultimately went for a much bigger actor, which shouldn't come as a big surprise. It's not a character that is a household name, so Sony is going to need to attach big names in order to drum up excitement.
The Wrap reports that the Bloodshot movie will be directed by Dave Wilson, who is Tim Miller's partner at Blur Studios. If Sony is taking heavy inspiration from Deadshot in regards to the upcoming blockbuster, then having someone who knows that project well is a good choice. We'll just have to see how it all plays out.
Deadshot is reportedly being planned for a 2019 release, and CinemaBlend will keep you updated on all the developments. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
