New Avengers: Infinity War Posters Get The Viral Meme Treatment
All eyes are currently on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the behemoth studio gears up toward the end of an era. Black Panther is still making tons of money, while Avengers: Infinity War is just a few weeks away from finally arriving in theaters. Cinephiles and fans alike seem to be excited about the upcoming blockbuster, while also nervously anticipating which characters might bite the bullet. New character posters for Infinity War were just released (except for Hawkeye), helping to continue drum up excitement for the movie. But now those posters have been made into one of the most popular memes on social media: the guy looking back at a girl. Check it out below.
I'm sorry, but that pretty much made my day. With some simple photo shop skills, one fan was able to make Scarlet Witch, Captain America, and Bucky into the most commonly used meme on the internet. And considering the storylines at play in the shared universe, it makes the meme even more funny.
The guy looking back meme has been popular for months now, and it's the gift that keeps on giving on social media. Every pop culture moment or relatable joke has been editing onto that stock image, to hilarious results. It was only a matter of time before Infinity War started become a victim of memes, and this one certainly didn't disappoint.
The Avengers version of the meme is so delightful because the three heroes are facing identical directions as the original. Plus, pairing Captain America and Bucky is comedic gold. So much of Cap's plot in the past few movies has been focused on the rehabilitation of his best friend turned living weapon. This is the point of contention that put a wedge between he and Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War, with Iron Man ultimately getting his ass kicked by the old friends. Seeing Steve looking romantically jealous of Bucky is hilarious, y especiallconsidering the great length Cap has gone to protect his buddy.
Bucky's rehabilitation should be a major plot line in Avengers: Infinity War, considering the time he spent in Wakanda. It seems that Shuri cured Bucky from the clutches of mind control that had been dictating his actions, meaning that Steve Rogers was right all along. But Bucky did kill Tony's parents, so it'll be interesting to see how Iron Man and Black Widow deal with their shared history with the former villain.
Scarlet Witch's inclusion in the above meme is likely due to her positioning and posture in her Infinity War poster. It looks like much of her plot in the new blockbuster will revolve around the relationship with Paul Bettany's Vision, with whom she shares a romantic connection. But Wanda (like the rest of Team Cap) has presumably been on the run for two years, which should affect the way she sees the world.
Avengers: Infinity War will arrive in theaters April 27, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
