One Scene In A Quiet Place Totally Nods At The Office's Jim And Pam
Minor spoilers for A Quiet Place can be found in this article!
With the release of A Quiet Place, John Krasinski has delved into an entirely new genre and filmmaking style by embracing horror in a major way. That said, the film still seems to acknowledge his time as a sitcom star on NBC's The Office, as well. In fact, despite the film's forward momentum and sense of urgency, it manages to take a moment to seemingly nod at The Office by having Lee (Krasinski) and Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) share a set of earbuds. Now, it looks like the internet has caught on to the reference, and social media has exploded with responses. Check one out, below.
Rejoice, fans of The Office. John Krasinski may have graduated to the world of horror filmmaking, but that has not stopped him from dropping references to his famous previous work. Specifically, fans seem to have noticed that the scene in which John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's characters slow dance while sharing iPod earbuds bears a striking resemblance to a scene from "The Client" episode of The Office Season 2 in which Jim and Pam similarly share a pair of headphones to listen to music. The only real difference is that The Office doesn't feature any monsters -- unless you count the ever-elusive Scranton Strangler.
That earlier tweet isn't the only example of a fan picking up on the nod. In fact, social media has pretty much exploded now that the cat is out of the bag. Check out another tweet responding to the Easter egg, below.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily change anything about how we respond to A Quiet Place. The headphones scene stands on its own as a great character moment between Lee and Evelyn, and the emotional payoff arguably works even without knowing that a similar scene exists in the world of The Office. Now, however, it is merely a matter of wondering what other fun references and nods that John Krasinski was able to squeeze into his first-ever horror romp. Who knows? Maybe the Abbott Family homestead was actually called Schrute Farms at one point before the monsters arrived from outer space.
A Quiet Place is now in theaters, and though Rampage has officially dethroned it, it has still made a ton of money in its run so far. Make sure to read CinemaBlend's full review of the nearly-silent horror-thriller and then check it out on the big screen to see what all of the fuss is about!
