Deadpool 2 Trailer Has Some Major Hints That Juggernaut's Showing Up
There is a convoy. The convoy contains several mutants, all wearing yellow jumpsuits, who are being detained by the DMC. Could one of those mutants be Cain Marko, aka Juggernaut? There are rumors swirling that the classic X-Men villain could show face in Deadpool 2. And we have visual evidence in the most recent trailer that seems to back this information up -- tough nothing is confirmed at this time. Let's run through the scenarios.
Cain Marko, in the comics, is the stepbrother of Professor Charles Xavier. He wears a protective suit that makes him larger than live and virtually indestructible. Juggernaut has super strength, and basically uses his girth as a battering ram. He's enormous, and hard to hide, but Deadpool 2 might actually have pulled it off, despite these quick nods.
The first hint is the VERY quick shot of Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) punching something large that COULD be Juggernaut's signature helmet.
Possible, but not entirely convincing. However, in an earlier scene from the Deadpool 2 trailer, when Domino (Zazie Beetz) disposes of a DMC driver, there's a thermal image of a person who's presumably in the convoy. And the size of the thermal image ALSO suggests that it could be Juggernaut.
Why is this exciting? Because Juggernaut is an incredible X-Men villain who hasn't gotten a proper shake in the on-screen X-Men universe. Vinny Jones attempted to play him in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, and it was a total disgrace. A laughing stock.
The original Deadpool movie made it very clear that it takes place in the X-Men universe, stopping by the Xavier Mansion and including Colossus and newcomer Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand). You can see in Deadpool 2 that they will go back to the mansion, and includes shots of the Blackbird, the X-Men jet. So the sequel absolutely should pull in a vintage villain from that Marvel world. The fact that they've been able to sit on it this long is incredibly cool. I hope this speculation isn't wrong.
We'll know for sure when David Leitch's Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on May 18.
