Most Excellent News: Bill And Ted 3 Is Officially Happening
They've been to the future, they've been to the past, they've been all around the afterlife, and now it looks like Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan are finally going to journey to the realm of trilogies. That's right, folks; the Wyld Stallyns are finally going to ride again for a third Bill and Ted movie, and this is most triumphant news for fans of the classic metalheads.
After years of on-again, off-again rumors of plans for a Bill and Ted 3, we're finally going to get the belated sequel. Based on a report out of Cannes, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are definitely planning to team up once more to reprise their roles as the lovable dimwits whose music eventually goes on to save the world and establish a utopia, and the project has officially begun pre-production. Taking the moniker, Bill and Ted Face the Music, the threequel will catch up with Bill and Ted as grown-ups trying to cope with the mundane nature of their daily lives as family men. However, when the fabric of space and time begins to tear around them, they are forced to team up with their daughters to go on yet another excellent adventure, rediscover themselves, and write that epic song they were always destined to write.
Of course, over the course of this most non-bogus journey, they come face to face with an array of historical figures, as well as some beloved music icons. There's also no word on whether or not fan-favorite characters like the Grim Reaper (William Sadler) or Station may return in Bill and Ted Face the Music, but we will keep our fingers crossed on that front.
The return of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter isn't the only element worth getting excited about, as Bill and Ted Face the Music is reassembling the old creative team as well. Per THR's report on the film's announcement, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are returning to craft the film's screenplay, and Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot (the long-rumored candidate for the gig) is set to step behind the camera.
For longtime fans of the Bill and Ted franchise, the formal announcement of Bill and Ted 3 will likely come as a huge relief. Both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have tried to get the project off the ground for the better part of the last three decades, with a fair number of false starts slowing down the process. The project has historically had issues raising the money necessary to start production, but now it has finally gotten the traction that it needs to send these beloved losers from San Dimas, California on another wild ride. Let's just hope it can live up to the most excellent legacy of 1989's Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and 1991's Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.
