Why The X-Force Movie Will Be Good For Deadpool, According To Ryan Reynolds

X-Force

Deadpool 2 isn't even here yet, but we already know what comes next for the fast-talking comic book antihero, a team-up movie with the rest of X-Force. It's something actor Ryan Reynolds thinks will be good for his character. While Deadpool will have led a pair of superhero movies himself by the time we see an X-Force movie, Reynolds says putting Wade Wilson in a team will be good, as it means the movie doesn't need to be about Deadpool, so the story has more freedom. Also, putting Deadpool in a team is sure to bring plenty of comedy. According to Reynolds...

I see it being a real ensemble on a lot of levels just because I think it's interesting for Deadpool to kinda function in the way he does in his own universe. You always get to sort of find some way to position him as the underdog or take everything away from him, but for him to function in an ensemble [in X-Force] is a lot of fun. I think there's a real opportunity to not burden the narrative by shattering Wade's life, so then at the beginning our movie you get to have him just be part of the team, which is obviously a very challenging prospect for someone like Wade Wilson.

While the Deadpool movies are great (seriously, the second one is even better than the first), it's certainly true that if you continue to make Deadpool the main character, you have to continually find ways to make him the underdog again and again, it has the potential to get repetitive and redundant, something Deadpool would probably point out in voice over the third or fourth time this happened. By making the character's next outing a team movie, the story can be something that includes him rather than it being something about him.

Ryan Reynolds tells Collider that while there is not a script for the X-Force movie yet, there is a story that has been agreed upon, so while this one won't be jumping into production next week, the movie is certainly moving forward. To talk too much about what might be in store for the film would spoil Deadpool 2, and we won't be doing that here.

On the downside, for those who really love the Deadpool movies, it sounds like X-Force, while it will include Deadpool, could potentially be a very different movie. It will be interesting to see not only how the character handles a team, but how the audience handles a movie that treats the character as simply one member of a larger ensemble. We'll find out at some point, though X-Force has no official release date, so we don't know exactly when.
