New Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Video Teases An Insane Amount Of Dinosaurs
In 2015's Jurassic World, Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing said that no one is impressed by a dinosaur anymore. Judging by that film's box office, she was mistaken. The sequel film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is still following Claire's prescription to captivate audiences by delivering dinosaurs that are bigger, louder and have more teeth. Fallen Kingdom is bringing a ton of dinosaurs to theaters this summer; Dinos new and old, real and fictional, big and small will all be present for a smorgasbord of prehistoric goodness. To get an idea of the insane number of dinosaurs that will show up in Fallen Kingdom, check out the video below, which teases the massive cast of creatures.
The claim from producer Pat Crowley in this video is what really stands out here. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will have more dinosaurs than all of the other films... combined. That is quite a lot of dinosaurs, and now I'm wondering which Jurassic film has the most to this point and what the actual count is. Scenes in the trailer featuring the dinosaurs are running from the island's exploding volcano fill the frame with the beasts, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. What's cool about this featurette is it gives us a sample of what we can expect in Fallen Kingdom by promising returns of our old favorites like Blue and Rexy, while also teasing some of the cool new stuff that we will get to see.
T-Rex and raptors are never not impressive, but getting more of some different stuff is welcome and exciting. The original trilogy didn't really feature sea dinosaurs, so I think the Mosasaurus that made a huge splash in the last film is quite the selling point. The Baryonyx that we've seen terrorizing the Dinosaur Protection Group in the trailers looks awesome, and I'm sure the toys and plush Stygimoloch's are already in production to capitalize on the dinosaur that looks to be filling the cute quota. Of course, what really gets people excited are the scary dinosaurs and Fallen Kingdom is promising an all-timer with the Indoraptor which should help this film achieve its horror aims.
Another aspect of Fallen Kingdom highlighted in this video is the focus on practical effects. Obviously Fallen Kingdom will have an incredible amount of CGI, but it's clear that lots of animatronics will be used to give the actors something to play off of, and give the film that tangible quality that practical effects are best at achieving. The call for practical effects have been deafening in the past few years, and fans are really excited to see what director J.A. Bayona and creature effects supervisor Neal Scanlan can deliver for the upcoming blockbuster. I also have to wonder, how does one get a job as a dinosaur motion capture performer?
With the mission to save the dinosaurs from an exploding Isla Nublar and mad scientists cooking up all manner of unnatural beast, I'm sure there will be a dinosaur for everyone in Fallen Kingdom. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are some other dinosaurs that have been held back from the trailers so far that are being saved for the movie.
