Ryan Reynolds And Josh Brolin’s NSFW Insults Might Be Better Than Deadpool And Cable’s
Ever since Deadpool's post-credits scene teased the coming of Cable, we have been excited to see the Merc with a Mouth playing off the grim time traveler. The trailers have not disappointed, either, as the insults thrown between Josh Brolin's Cable and Ryan Reynold's Deadpool have been just vicious as the blows and bullets traded. There promises to be even more playing the dozens between the two in Deadpool 2 but Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin aren't limiting their insults to the movie. The two actors are trading barbs off-screen too, with some zingers that may end up being even better than their cinematic counterparts. Check it out in the video below, but just remember, as with most things Deadpool-related, this video is NSFW.
First off, this Playground Insults game on BBC Radio 1 is a brilliant idea, and Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin have exactly the ribbing and hilarious dynamic that you would want to see between Deadpool and Cable. The insults here are arguably superior and more cutting than those seen between the two superheroes in the trailers for Deadpool 2. Mostly those are just Cable and Deadpool calling each other names, although Cable saying Deadpool is a "clown, dressed up as a sex toy" is pretty great. Here we see the actors really going a bit more personal and attacking each other's careers to humorous effect. Ryan Reynolds is as you would expect witty and clever, delivering lines like:
Simple, yet effective. Also especially funny considering that only 8 years separate the two actors. Throughout, Ryan Reynolds' jokes land just a little bit more and he also does just a little bit of a better job keeping his composure than Josh Brolin is able to. Despite his badass looks, Josh Brolin hasn't quite mastered Cable's steely demeanor outside of the studio. Although I think Ryan Reynolds probably had the more creative and funny remarks overall, Josh Brolin delivers a near knockout punch referencing his counterpart's less successful superhero portrayal, saying:
Brutal. Green Lantern is not remembered as a success in any regard and although its failure isn't Ryan Reynold's fault, that has to sting. Josh Brolin could have gone further though and sighted Ryan Reynold's previous Deadpool outing in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds tries to insult Josh Brolin's role as Brand in Goonies, but even he can't keep it together, because Goonies is beyond reproach. Seeing Deadpool call Cable "one-eyed Willy" or Cable calling Wade "a dumb fuck" is fun, but its more generic. If you really want to drop someone with words it has to be more personal and that's part of the fun of this insult contest.
I wonder how much of the back and forth between Deadpool and Cable in the film was just improvised between these two actors. Even if it was all scripted, seeing these two in character, with their completely different demeanors and deliveries lobbing insults at one another while fighting promises to be one of the highlights of the film. Deadpool 2 hits theaters this weekend. For everything else coming to theaters this year check out our release guide and for all the latest news about yo momma, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
