James Gunn Says He Won't Be Changing Up Titles For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
The Marvel Cinematic Universe approaches sequels differently from franchise to franchise. The Iron Man series uses numbers, while Thor and Captain America use subtitles and Ant-Man 2 will go by the name Ant-Man and The Wasp when it debuts later this year. Then there are Guardians of the Galaxy, which carved out its own niche with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it seems that it will keep that trend going into the future. In fact, in response to a recent fan suggestion that he call the movie Guardians of the Galaxy.mp3, Gunn took to social media and confirmed that he's sticking with the Vol. format for his titling. Gunn wrote:
So, it seems that James Gunn has received the suggestion of Guardians of the Galaxy.mp3 from multiple fans. On the one hand, it actually makes a certain degree of sense. Peter Quill now has access to a Zune instead of his old mixtapes from his mother, so the shift to .mp3 would mirror his own turn to digital music. However, now that James Gunn has moved the Guardians of the Galaxy movies into full-blown franchise territory, he intends to keep the titling consistent and tell the story in "volumes." Now, even with the inclusion of the Zune into Peter Quill's life, the emphasis on mixtapes will remain the same.
