Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Has Added Al Pacino In A Cool Role
For what may be his penultimate movie, Quentin Tarantino has assembled quite a cast. Right off the bat, you have actors like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie leading Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and there are a variety of other performers who are making up the supporting lineup. But word has come in that the upcoming Tarantino flick has added yet another heavy hitter, as this will mark the director's first collaboration with Al Pacino.
According to Variety, Al Pacino will Marvin Shwarz, the agent of Leonardo DiCaprio's character, actor Rick Dalton, in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Obviously Pacino is such a Hollywood legend that he needs no introduction, but his projects in recent years have included Danny Collins, The Pirates of Somalia and HBO's Paterno. Pacino is also set to star in Martin Scorsese's upcoming Netflix movie The Irishman. While it remains to be seen just how big Pacino's role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be, it's safe to say that this will arguably his biggest movie of the last decade.
Set in 1969, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follows Rick Dalton, the former star of a Western TV series, trying to navigate the changing Hollywood landscape with his stuntman, Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth. Dalton and Booth's story will overlap with the Manson Family murders, as Dalton lives next door to Sharon Tate, who is being played by Margot Robbie. The movie's supporting cast includes Damian Lewis as The Great Escape actor Steve McQueen, Emile Hirsch as hairstylist Jay Sebring, Dakota Fanning as Manson Family member Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, Nicholas Hammond as director Sam Wanamaker, Luke Perry as Scotty Lancer, Clifton Collins Jr. as Ernesto the Mexican Vaquero and Keith Jefferson as Land Pirate Keith.
But the fun doesn't stop there. Burt Reynolds has also been cast in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as George Spahn, a nearly-blind rancher who allowed Charles Manson and his followers to live on his ranch, while Michael Madsen, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth have been added in undisclosed roles. It's also rumored that Roman Polanski, who was Sharon Tate's husband before her death, will be a character. Looking at this group, Al Pacino will definitely be in good company. However, one frequent Quentin Tarantino collaborator who probably won't appear in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Samuel L. Jackson, as he's keeping busy with Captain Marvel.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood opens in theaters on August 9, 2019 (which is also the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate and four others being murdered), so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on the movie's development.
