Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Will Top 1 Billion, Here's Where It's At Right Now
We've known for some time that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom would probably not be quite the behemoth hit that its predecessor was in 2015. However, the movie hit some theaters internationally and finally hit theaters domestically this weekend, and it is still pulling in big numbers at theaters worldwide. Specifically, we now know the movie is going to make over a billion dollars worldwide, and it has currently made $567 million internationally, along with an additional $150 million on opening weekend domestically.
The numbers for this past weekend recently dropped. In addition to the new dinosaur-oriented film opening in the United States, the movie also opened in a slew of other countries this weekend. This includes large markets like Mexico, Brazil and Australia. Per Box Office Mojo, as of the time of this writing, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has achieved a total box office intake of $717,001,000. That's not too shabby for the middle film in what is expected to be a trilogy of movies.
The movie has been out for three weekends in some countries, but domestically there's really not another huge box office outing until Ant-Man And The Wasp hits theaters on July 6, 2018. This should give audiences a few weeks to check the flick out before theaters are crammed chock full with movies like the upcoming Marvel title, The First Purge and Skyscraper again. As such, the question is not whether Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will hit $1 billion, but when.
The movie so far has been a successful outing for Universal, even if it's not beating Jurassic World. So far, it has already outgrossed Deadpool 2, which has a cumulative worldwide total of a little over $707 million so far. It's also been a number one movie in 67 countries week of release so far, as well. While not unexpected, considering at least here in the States no big movies even tried to open against the movie, it's still fun to note. The movie is also doing well alongside the continued success of Incredibles 2, which is also not a huge shock, considering the two are very different types of movies.
All in all Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is unlikely to top the almost $1.7 billion the first movie made in theaters, but people are clearly excited about the franchise and that should bode good things leading into the already-announced third sequel. We'll keep tabs on Fallen Kingdom's box office totals in the weeks to come and will let you know as soon as more news breaks regarding Jurassic World 3. In the meantime, there really are a lot of big movies coming out this summer, especially in July when, in addition to the aforementioned titles we also get Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend because there is sure to be some big box office news to come, and hopefully in the very near future.
