Why Supernatural Fans Need To See Jack Black’s The House With A Clock In Its Walls

Supernatural and The House with a Clock in its Walls

There are few fandoms as committed, or some might say fanatical, as the one for the CW show Supernatural. The fan community for the series is renowned not just for its Tumblr presence, but also for driving ratings for the show year after year to the point that Supernatural is still going strong after 13 seasons and 287 episodes. Season 14 doesn't premiere until October, but September will bring something else for fans of the Winchester brothers to obsess over. The movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls will be jam-packed with Supernatural Easter eggs. The film's writer and Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke, explained why this movie is a must-see for fans of the show. Take a look:

There you have it, Supernatural fans, this movie is required viewing. Not only will The House with a Clock in Its Walls have a lot of Supernatural Easter eggs, but the children's novel upon which it was based actually provided the inspiration for the show in the first place. On Twitter, Eric Kripke even calls it the origin story, so chances are if you like Supernatural, you might find something to like in The House with a Clock in Its Walls. I'm guessing with 13 seasons of Sam and Dean material to mine from (although Eric Kripke was only showrunner for the first five seasons) these Easter eggs could range from obvious to super deep cuts. Though, Eric Kripke will be offering clues for the Supernatural family to help them on the hunt.

Given the dedication of the Supernatural fandom, this is a pretty great way to get people out to see The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The House with a Clock in Its Walls is based on a 1973 children's novel by John Bellairs. It tells the story of a young orphan who goes to live with his mysterious and magical uncle at his magical house that contains evil secrets within its walls. The novel is part of a series that has continued long after the original author's death with the last volume being released in 2008. I'm not sure what the awareness level and fandom is for these books. Some people even got this movie mixed up with Hotel Artemis. But the supernatural elements of this story may be quite appealing to fans of Eric Kripke's show, and the promise of Easter eggs hidden within the walls of the film is likely irresistible to Supernatural fans.

Noted horror director Eli Roth (in a stark departure from his usual wheelhouse) directs the fantasy family film. The House with a Clock in Its Walls stars Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Kyle MacLachlan and Owen Vaccaro. The Supernatural Easter egg hunt begins when The House with a Clock in Its Walls opens in theaters on September 21. For all of this years biggest movies, check out our release schedule.
