The Mission: Impossible franchise has long been known for its wild and dangerous stunt work. The first film has become iconic for the CIA headquarters infiltration scene, while Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation upped the ante by putting Tom Cruise on the outside of a plane. Now Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Fallout is going to up the ante even further by having Cruise perform a HALO (high-altitude low-opening) jump, and a newly-released clip from the sequence promises something genuinely amazing. I suppose I should've warned you that this sequence is not for those who have a fear of heights. Mission: Impossible - Fallout looks seriously intense, and Ethan Hunt is going to take the title of the film a little too literally by falling out of the back of a plane. We already know that Tom Cruise actually performed the HALO jump for the film, so seeing it play out on the big screen should prove to be nothing less than exhilarating.
Of course, one of the most exciting elements of this clip is the rivalry highlighted between August Walker and Ethan Hunt. One of the most talked-about aspects of Mission: Impossible - Fallout is the pairing of Henry Cavill and Tom Cruise as opposite sides of the same coin, and this HALO jump scene really hammers home their differences. Ethan seems concerned by whatever he's looking at as he gazes out from the back of the transport plane, while Walker throws caution to the wind and leaps out for the jump, even sabotaging Ethan's suit in the process.
With all of that said, this small tease of an amazing stunt only feeds into our mounting excitement for Mission: Impossible - Fallout. The early reactions to the sixth installment in the spy franchise have promised a fantastic blockbuster that stands out as one of the films to watch out for this summer, with many of the positive reviews praising the effectiveness of the movie's stunts. Many audiences still don't fully know the extent of Fallout's action sequences, but this HALO jump sequence quite literally takes things to a much higher level than anything seen in movies like Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol or Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. You can bet that we plan on accepting this mission when Fallout's release date finally rolls around.
