The New Charlie’s Angels Is About To Reveal Casting And Elizabeth Banks Wants Fans To Play Along
Hollywood has seen some fantastic success by dusting off classic properties over the years, and now it looks like Charlie's Angels is once again due for a full-blown reboot. The classic TV series from the 1970s is getting a shot of adrenaline courtesy of Pitch Perfect's Elizabeth Banks, and the actress/director/producer has just posted a brand-new video to social media teasing some major casting announcements just around the corner, along with a way for fans to get in on the action. There's a lot to unpack here, so we will just let Elizabeth Banks explain the whole thing for herself. The Happytime Murders star posted:
So, it sounds like we can expect to see our trio of badass women revealed at some point soon, as Elizabeth Banks' post makes sure to note that they're preparing to unveil the casting for the Charlie's Angels reboot. To help fans become part of the process, Banks wants fans to take to Instagram and post videos of themselves saying, "good morning, Charlie," along with the hashtags #CharliesAngels and #GoodMorningCharlie. If you are a longtime fan of the Charlie's Angels property, or just someone looking to get into the property for the very first time, this looks like a way to contribute something to a beloved piece of pop culture.
It will undoubtedly be interesting to see who Elizabeth Banks has opted to pick for her new trio of Angels. The lineup of the titular trio of women has changed numerous times over the years, dating all the way back to the original lineup of Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith back in 1976. That ensemble changed several times to include actresses like future Bond girl Tanya Roberts and Cheryl Ladd, and Charlie's Angels eventually evolved to the more recent big-screen incarnation that featured Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu in 2000's Charlie's Angels and 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
We know that the new film has already picked Power Rangers star Naomi Scott to portray one of the Angels, and unconfirmed rumors have stated that Twilight star Kristen Stewart and Black Panther actress Lupita N'yongo may also be in the running. With a reveal right around the corner, it looks like we will soon know exactly who the stars of the movie really will be.
With all of that said, it looks like we still have a while to wait until we actually see the final cut of the Charlie's Angels reboot. Elizabeth Banks is still location scouting for the film (which looks like it will be a globe-trotting adventure), which means there's still some time before she can assemble the cast and begin principal photography. Nevertheless, it seems that some substantial progress has been made as it inches to its June 7, 2019 release.
