Fans have been journeying into the Hundred Acre Wood since the 1920s. This summer, the wood and the fan-favorite characters who live there will be returning to the big screen in Christopher Robin, Disney's new take on the familiar classic stories. The movie stars Ewan McGregor as the adult Christopher Robin, and to celebrate the release of the movie this August, Disney sat McGregor down with special furry pals like Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore. Although Ewan McGregor only asks a question or two to each of his stuffed compatriots, we get a sense of how their personalities will play out in the movie. Eeyore hilariously talks to McGregor about how his onscreen character is actually "a bit cheerier" than the real Eeyore, while Pooh can't pay attention to the questions because he's busy "thinking about lunch." Tigger is making up Tigger-y words to describe his experiences (like predicerament) and Piglet is as nervous as ever. I'm sure that Ewan McGregor also has plenty to say about the Christopher Robin role, but this animated segment is special, and way more fun than having a regular interview setup with the voice actors talking about how they were involved with the movie.
Speaking of voice actors, in Christopher Robin Jim Cummings voices Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Brad Garrett voices Eeyore, and Nick Mohammad voices Piglet. Along with the A.A. Milne creatures featured in the video, we'll also get to see and hear from the likes of Rabbit, Owl, Kanga and Roo, as well. Voice work for those characters also comes from some famous names, including Toby Jones, Peter Capaldi, Sophie Okonedo and Sara Sheen. The movie will be set in a live action world featuring the animated characters, which should make for an interesting palette, as well.
The new Disney film will hit theaters in just a few days on August 3. While there have been a slew of kid-friendly movies released over the past few weeks like Teen Titans Go To The Movies and Hotel Transylvania 3, Christopher Robin promises a different sort of experience for fans. It's also going hard on the nostalgia factor, which should entice some adults to show up as well--and I'm not talking just because they're going with their kids.
The first trailers for Christopher Robin have been emotional and heartfelt, setting up a story about how Christopher Robin has grown into an adult who has lost his ability to imagine. His friends from the Hundred Acre Wood will show up to help him, presumably leading to fun and mischief.
