New Avengers: Infinity War Video Shows How Wakanda Influenced The Russo Brothers
Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War is an unprecedented collaborative effort, which pulls together strands from all over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, it primarily builds an Avengers film as seen through the eyes of the Russo Brothers. But it also contains crucial seeds of Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films, and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther. All of their creative inputs could be felt in this one tapestry of a superhero blockbuster, and a key part of that collaboration can be seen in this new Infinity War behind-the-scenes clip, shared with CinemaBlend by FandangoNOW:
Avengers: Infinity War is available on FandangoNOW, Fandango's video-on-demand service. This means that, for the first time, Marvel fans can purchase all three Avengers movies in 4K UHD. With each Avengers purchase on FandangoNOW, fans will also receive one of five movie posters from Fandango FanShop, Fandango's movie merchandise marketplace. (It's also now available on Blu-ray.) Here are the posters that are available:
And, of course, you get to revisit Avengers: Infinity War -- a movie that, remarkably, has not outgrossed Black Panther at the domestic box office. That goes to show the impact that Ryan Coogler's Black Panther had on not just the MCU, but on the casual moviegoing public who have been waiting for years for better representation in the realm of big-screen superheroes. It helped that Coogler's movie was fantastic. But as the Russos have pointed out on the commentary track for Infinity War, they took a risk setting the final act of their movie in Wakanda, because they didn't yet know how audiences would respond to Coogler's movie. The fact that it was a hit, and audiences embraced the Wakandan lifestyle, was MCU kismet.
Wakanda forever, indeed.
This digital stream is coming along at the right time. After Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel fans are entering into a dark period, where we won't see a new Marvel Studios movie until March 2019. That's when Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, will reach theaters, followed by the saga-concluding Avengers 4. Who survives the ultimate conclusion? And where does this on-screen universe go from here? We wait for answers.
