After the huge success of IT last year, people have eagerly anticipated the continuation of the story in IT Chapter 2. The sequel has built up quite the impressive cast which includes James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader as the adult versions of the Losers' Club. They'll be going toe-to-toe with Pennywise himself, and unfortunately aren't off to a great start. While filming a fight scene, McAvoy was injured on his thigh. He's totally fine, but the actor shared his injury via social media, and reported that he'd be making a speedy recovery.
Taking place almost 30 years later, IT Chapter 2 finds the Losers' Club all grown up with their nightmare of a childhood behind them. However, signs of Pennywise's return draw them each back to Derry and fulfill the promise they made to each other as children: to kill the clown once and for all. Expect a lot more grit and drama now that the film no longer has children fighting for their lives. And before the movie has even finished filming, there's already been an injury. While filming a fight scene against Pennywise, James McAvoy had a double thigh strain. Because your boy Pennywise fights dirty.
Sharing a picture of, well, his crotch on Instagram, James McAvoy explained that he strained his thighs on set. But it's being taken care of, and he will make a very quick recovery and get right back to clown-killing. The actor obviously didn't reveal any specifics of the scene he was filming, but judging by how dirty he looks in the picture, I'd wager that it was in the sewer system-- a pretty important setting in IT. Pennywise lives in the sewer, and in the novel it served as the location for the climactic ending.
It's good to hear that James McAvoy will be back up and using those thighs, because he has an important role in the sequel. McAvoy is playing the adult Bill Denbrough, the leader of the Losers' Club and whose little brother Georgie was eaten by Pennywise. Bill is a massive figure in the books, and while IT Chapter 2 can always veer away from the source material if it wants, Bill plays an important part in defeating Pennywise.
Other than the cast of players, not much else is known about IT Chapter 2. The movie will release in theaters on September 6, 2019, and stars James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, Andy Bean.
