Guillermo Del Toro's Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark: An Updated Cast List
After what has been reported as months of searching for the perfect cast to star in the Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, we finally have an update on the full lineup of young actors that will play the film's main teenage ensemble. The film, inspired by Alvin Schwartz's infamous collections of stories meant to scare younger readers, is set to start filming this week, and the cast we're about to run down has a pretty impressive pedigree.
So who are these young stars? Admittedly there aren't any household names set to star in Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, but it will have a group of experienced youngsters playing the lead roles. And while we don't have much in the way of character details just yet, you can get to know the main six stars below.
Starting off the cast are Zoe Colletti and Natalie Ganzhorn. Colletti was the first cast member to be announced, and has been seen in such projects as the 2014 remake of Annie, as well as the AMC series Rubicon - where she played the daughter to series lead Jessica Collins. Most recently, she was seen in the Sundance hit Wildlife, which will continue to hit the festival scene before its October release. As for Ganzhorn, her resume is a little thinner, with most of her work being in the realm of TV shows like The Stanley Dynamic and Make It Pop.
Also part of the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark cast are Austin Abrams and Gabriel Rush, both of whom have had pretty solid experiences in both television and film. Abrams was most recently seen on the final season of FX's The Americans, but might be better recognized by younger viewers from his work on HBO's Silicon Valley, and last year's Ben Stiller college dramedy Brad's Status. Gabriel Rush, on the other hand, has been in two Wes Anderson films, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, and has played the younger version of Michael McKean's character, Chuck McGill, on AMC's Better Call Saul.
Rounding out the six main stars listed in this morning's announcement via Variety are Austin Zajur and Michael Garza. Austin will soon be seen on the Showtime dramedy Kidding, alongside Jim Carrey, but also had a key part to play in the Charlie Day/Ice Cube comedy Fist Fight. As for Garza, he's not only been on NBC's on again/off again sci-fi series Timeless, but also had a role in the first part of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay's two part series finale.
This young cast is an assortment of talents from many backgrounds, ready to bring this chilling classic to life. Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark doesn't have a set release date just yet, but it could be assumed that by next Halloween, we'll get to see these actors running from some of the scariest stuff inspired by Alvin Schwartz and illustrator Stephen Gammell's legendary trilogy of nightmare fuel.
