Marvel’s Dave Bautista Has Been Rejected By Star Wars Multiple Times

Drax with his knives in Guardians 1

It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is massively popular. The MCU has turned into a well oiled machine, and every movie in Phase Three has been a critical and box office success. One of the biggest franchises is Guardians of the Galaxy, which includes Dave Bautista as goofy warrior Drax The Destroyer. While this role has helped catapult Bautista into a successful acting career, it turns out that he still gets plenty of rejections. Namely, the wrestler turned actor has been turned down by the Star Wars franchise... more than once. As he recently revealed:

I've actually auditioned for a couple of Star Wars [movies] and they've turned me down. It was always a dream of mine to be in a Star Wars film. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the latest installments. I particularly loved Rogue One. I thought it was a really great film and I love that they went a little bit dark with it. I thought it was really interesting.

Despite being one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest fan favorite characters, it looks like Dave Bautista still has to fight for jobs. And although Blade Runner 2049 and Hotel Artemis ultimately hired him, Bautista hasn't been able to join the galaxy far, far away.

Dave Bautista's comments to Flickering Myth help peel back the curtain of show business, and prove that even the most successful actor still faces their share of rejection. For Dave Bautista, the franchise that does this for him is Star Wars. Given his tenure as Drax in the MCU, one would think that he would be the perfect actor to join the galaxy far, far away.

One has to wonder which Star Wars projects Dave Bautista has auditioned for, and why he ended up not getting the role. In addition to the main installments like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, there have also been two standalone films as well. Bautista revealed he thoroughly enjoyed Gareth Edwards' groundbreaking movie Rogue One, so perhaps that was the one he had his eye on. Could he have played Saw Gerrera? Orson Krennic? Hopefully Bautista will reveal the full story eventually.

While Dave Bautista has dreamed of playing a role in the Star Wars franchise, he also throws some shade at the most recent installments. While he doesn't reveal why he didn't enjoy certain new Star Wars flicks, but it's fun to see Bautista getting honest about the franchise that has rejected him multiple times.

While Dave Bautista has already been rejected by Star Wars a few times, his schedule might be opening up for a future role. Following James Gunn's firing from Marvel, Bautista claimed he wouldn't be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without Gunn's original draft. The threequel is currently on delay, and it's unclear if it will have new life at all.

You can catch Dave Bautista in Avengers 4 on May 3rd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
